Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the course cost?
The full course price is R1,950. Enrol during September 2026 and pay only R950—a saving of R1,000. This discounted price applies to the complete course.

How long do I have to complete the course?
You have three months from enrolment to complete it. The content is arranged into six weekly modules, but you can work through them at your own pace within this period.

How is the course presented?
Grow Smarter is fully online through our online academy. It is completely self-study, allowing you to fit learning around your work and other commitments.

What learning materials are included?
Each module includes an hour-long explainer, short videos, a study guide and a comprehensive explainer handbook.

What will I learn?
You will explore crop planning, soil health, plant nutrition, irrigation, crop establishment, pest management, harvesting, food safety, costing, recordkeeping and selling your crop.

Do I need previous farming experience?
No previous farming qualification is required. Basic reading and numeracy skills and an interest in growing plants will help you get started.

 

Do I need access to a farm?
You do not need to own a farm. You can apply the activities to a vegetable garden, community growing project, small plot or realistic crop example.

 

Are there scheduled live classes?
No. The course uses recorded explainers and self-study materials, so there are no scheduled live classes to attend.

What equipment do I need?
You need an internet-connected smartphone, tablet or computer to access the course and view the learning materials. Internet and mobile data costs are for your own account.

Is this an accredited qualification?
No. Grow Smarter is a non-accredited, non-credit-bearing practical short course. It does not award an NQF qualification or replace the National Diploma in Plant Production.
